I was thinking about the season that just passed and realized it was a good bug year. Not only was I free of major infestations, but I got to see a bunch of really neat insects. I decided to share my love of ‘Bug on Flower’ photos with all of you in social media land and you shared back in a big way. Sometimes it’s fun to talk about the gardens we love, and sometimes it’s fun to just look at pictures. So here’s all the of the photos you shared with me. I promised to give away some seeds to the coolest picture…and the winner is……..
This neat shot of a pollen covered bee doing its work. Congratulations. If you are the photographer who took this pic, post your info as a comment (it won’t appear publicly) and I’ll send you a Large Packet of Save the Bees and Bring Home the Butterflies.

Thanks to all who shared their photos. This was fun, and we’ll have more photo contests in the near future. Stay tuned.

For most of us, the leaves are changing or just about gone. Here in Colorado the weather has been beautiful and led to an uncharacteristically long fall color display. We often get a freak cold snap or windstorm and the trees go from green to naked in one night. Not this year. I couldn’t be happier. I come from Western New York where the color display is famously brilliant and diverse. This year has made me realize the potential of Colorado fall color.
Along with the natural display of fall comes the seasonal décor that signals we have all accepted the impending winter and want to celebrate the mild weather we have before it goes. This has made me wonder what everyone else is doing to beautify their surroundings this time of year. The picture below is the front of Curtis and Judy’s (Botanical Interests owners) house. They’ve used ‘Howden’ and ‘Red Warty Thing’ pumpkins, ‘Tatuma’ squash, and ‘Delectable’ corn.
To inspire some sharing and participation, I would like to announce a photo contest. We want you to share photos of your fall decorations made using Botanical Interests varieties. The picture can be any theme you want, with a fall slant of course. Harvest, Halloween, Thanksgiving, or anything in between is acceptable. Be as creative as possible and share your artistic side with us.
